COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Prerequisite: CMIS 102, CMIS 102A, CMST 103, or IFSM 201. An overview of computer-based information-system concepts and operations and how these capabilities are applied by management to improve the work processes of business, government, and academic organizations. Topics include management planning at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels necessary to effect continuous improvements. The interchange of electronic information and the application of various computing tools such as spreadsheet programs are introduced. Students may receive credit for only one of the following courses: CAPP 340, CMIS 350, or CMST 340.

COURSE INTRODUCTION:
Information Systems (IS) and Computer Management are essential fields of study for business and management students. People who intend to be entrepreneurs or other business professionals should be as conversant in these functions as they are in any other functional area of business. Your professional development may depend on your knowledge of and ability to use information systems and computer applications in management.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:  

R Describe the power and payoff that computer-based information systems can provide to business, government, and academic entities in the execution of their work processes

R Demonstrate the application of some generally accepted office systems software, including a historical and international perspective

R Evaluate the techniques and describe the importance of process reengineering to continuous improvement of an entity's operations

R Provide critical analysis of existing work processes and indicate areas for improvement

R Using written materials and presentations, demonstrate effective collaboration on team research and study projects

R Demonstrate the effective use of modern library techniques to acquire information through electronic databases

R Identify ways in which management planning at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels can effect continuous improvements on society

folderAttendance is required. This is judged online through class participation. Plan to access the online classroom at least twice each week to post and respond to your instructor and other students.

Any coursework turned in two days (or more) after the due date will not be graded.
