Week One

Conference discussion: (this is you) personal introductions and responses. We will discuss your DTP experience, our class syllabus, and the course guidelines. Return to respond to someone else's introduction (you should have at least two responses posted to this conference by midnight on Monday 9/12/05).

HMWK:

  • Read Ch. 1 in Robin Williams' Design Workshop
    (pp.1-14)
  • Read Module One (under Course Content/Course Modules)--read Module One "The Professional Design Process"
  • Read Adobe InDesign CS2 Revealed "Exploring the InDesign Workspace"
  • Answer the Week One conference question about what software you have used and will be using for this class.

Due by midnight at the end of Week 1.

Week Two

Conference discussion: Desktop Publishing software and terminology; beginning discussion of the course final project and the stages necessary to complete it.

Complete the vocabulary worksheet attached as a MS Word document to the DTP vocabulary topic under Week Two.

Review the PowerPoint lecture: on The PC is not a Typewriter and post an example of a published error to the conference.

  • Read Adobe InDesign CS2 Revealed Chapter 2: "Working with Text"

Due by midnight at the end of Week 2.

Week Three

HMWK:  Now let's start with a simple desktop publishing project: "Setting Up Your Document" from Adobe InDesign CS2 Revealed."

Go through Chapter 2. Follow the steps beginning on p. 2-1 through 2-19. Run spell check on the document (explained on p. 2-29). Save your document and transfer the document into a PDF.

Then make the revisions suggested by your "clients" from page 2-35 (using file 2-8). Run spell check on the document (explained on p. 2-29). Save this document and transfer the document into a PDF.

Submit your finished documents  in its original software version and in a PDF version (4 total) to the Min-Pin assignment in WebTycho.

Due by midnight at the end of Week 3.
