Using Publisher to complete the
InDesign MinPin Intro assignment.

Directions
- open Publisher_InDesign2-1file.pub and save it as
Min-Pin Intro
- Select TOOLS, Options. Select the General tab and
change the measurement units to points. (not necessary, just showing you how to do this; although you can leave this setting to
points)
- Double-click the word Introducing at the top of the page.
- Triple-click Introducing
to select the entire line.
- With the entire line selected, go to the menu bar and
select FORMAT, then FONT.
- Change the font family to Impact and the size to 48
pt. then click OK.
- With the line still selected, go to FORMAT, then
select PARAGRAPH, and under Line Spacing change the "Between
lines" to 57.6pt (it is important to include the "pt" to
change the line spacing from sp (spaces) to pt (points).
- With the first line of the page still selected, press
and hold CTRL, SHIFT while pressing < three times. The font size will
be reduced by the preset font sizes in Publisher: from 48pt. to 26pt.
- With the first line of the page still selected, press
and hold CTRL, SHIFT while pressing > three times to make the font size
48pt. again.
- Click anywhere inside the second textbox and move the
top of the textbox down to 3 ½ on your vertical ruler.
- Click anywhere inside the first textbox and move the
bottom of the textbox down to 3 ½ on your vertical ruler.
- Triple click on Introducing again and change the
font size to 44 pt. by typing 44
into the font size box.
- With the line still selected, go to FORMAT,
PARAGRAPH, then change the "Between lines" to 48pt.
- Triple click on Christopher in the second line to
select the entire line.
- Change the font to 18pt, Garamond, italics, with a
leading (line spacing) of
21.6pts.
- Resize the top textbox to 2 ¼
- Bring the bottom textbox up to 2 ¼
- Click once in the top textbox, then click on the
border of that textbox so that the text frame is selected.
- Select FORMAT, then select TEXT BOX from the
drop-down menu.
- Select the TEXT BOX tab from the dialog box and
change the vertical alignment from top to middle.
- Triple click on Introducing again to select the
entire first line.
- Select FORMAT, CHARACTER SPACING and change the
TRACKING to "Loose" and the KERNING to "Condense."
Click Apply and OK.
- OK, we're at the end of page 2-9. Save your work and
take a deep breath, stretch, wiggle your fingers, and maybe even have a
sandwich. J
Ready to begin again?
If you happened to close your
file, be sure to open up MinPin Intro again.
- Select Whole Page in the view percentage drop-down
arrow.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and place your
cursor (click your mouse) in the
last line, then push the F9 function key on your keyboard. This will zoom
into that area on the page in Publisher.
- Select the number 1 in front of first footnote.
Select FORMAT, FONT, and select the box in front of SUPERSCRIPT.
- Do the same for footnote #2.
- Go to EDIT on the menu bar and select FIND. Type 1
and push the FIND NEXT button until the number 1 after " Doberman
Pinscher" is selected in the fourth paragraph.
- When the #1 after "Doberman Pinscher" is
highlighted (selected), change it to a superscript font.
- Do the same procedure for the #2 after
"cows"
- Go back to the footnotes at the bottom of the page.
Change the title of both works in each footnote to be underlined. (highlight the title, and select U
for underline on the formatting toolbar) Compare with the footnotes
shown on page 2-11 of your InDesign textbook.
- Select the first footnote, NOT INCLUDING the #1 and
change the font size to 8 pts.
- Do the same for the second footnote.
- Click VIEW on the menu bar and then ZOOM and Whole
Page.
- Select all of the text in the second text frame. Then
select FORMAT, PARAGRAPH, and set the leading (line spacing) to 18pt.
- Click Introducing
at the top of the document three times, then click the Align Center
button on your formatting toolbar.
- Select all of the body copy except the two footnotes. Go to FORMAT, PARAGRAPH and change
the first line indent to 0.25in (it
is important to include the "in" for inches")
- Select the "by Christopher Smith" line near
the top of the page, and change its first line indent to 0.5in
- Click in the body copy of the document and click
EDIT, SELECT ALL (or CTRL A) to select the entire second text box.
- Go to FORMAT, PARAGRAPH, and in the Line Spacing "After
Paragraphs" textbox, type .1875in (it is important to include the "in" for inches")
- Select the two footnotes at the bottom of the page
and change its Space After textbox to 0pt
- Select ONLY the first footnote and change its SPACING
BEFORE to 0.25in.
- Save the file.
- Click anywhere in the third paragraph and change the
first line indent to 0, and change the left and right indent values to
0.75in
- Change the third paragraph text to 18pt font size
with 20pt leading (character spacing).
- Click anywhere in the first paragraph and change the
first line left indent to 0.
- Highlight the first letter in the first paragraph.
Select FORMAT, DROP CAP.
- Select the Custom Drop Cap tab and make the drop cap "size
of letters" 3 lines high (look at the preview screen at the right
of the settings dialog box).
- Select all of the body copy, including the footnotes,
and change the font to Garamond and change the alignment to justified.
- Go to the last paragraph and click just before the
letter "O" of the word "On" in the third sentence (or
the last paragraph). Press and hold Shift
then press Enter to create a
soft return.
- Save the file.
- Print the file to your PDF writer.
- Submit both Publisher version and the PDF version to
your MinPin1 assignment in the WebTycho portfolio.
