MATH 107
MATH 012 is prerequisite for this course. Thus, students are expected to know this material; there will be no review of it in this course. The material, as listed in the current UMUC catalog, is as follows.
MATH 012 Intermediate Algebra (3) (Not open to students who have already successfully completed a higher-level mathematics course. Does not apply toward degree requirements. Yields institutional credit only.) Prerequisite: MATH 009 or an appropriate result on the placement test. A study of problem-solving techniques in intermediate-level algebra. Emphasis is on numbers and algebraic properties, graphing skills, and applications drawn from a variety of areas (such as statistics, computing, and discrete mathematics). Topics include polynomials; factoring; exponents and their notation; linear, quadratic, and other equations; and inequalities.
Concepts of axiom and theorem.

Do I Need a Calculator? Probably so. Most students find the TI-80 Series to be useful. The TI-89 is quite a sophisticated machine, and may be "too much" if MATH 107 is the last mathematics course you will take.
