Procedure:

  Exercise #1. Record Voice. 

Skills/Tasks
  • Check microphone connection
  • Open Goldwave
  • Adjust Goldwave settings; Record short script.
  • Save audio file to .wav format.
  • recording

The recording will sound like this.

Procedure:
  1. Demonstration:  Watch and Listen.
  2. Short Workshop: Work Individually.
    • Ask for Help when you need it.

  Exercise #2. Optimize Recording. 


Skills/Tasks
  • Review relevant editing techniques (edit & effects menu).
  • Remove silence from beginning and end of recording.
  • Adjust DC Offset . 
  • Use Normalization technique to maximize levels. 
  • Adjust amplitude range to reduce clipping.
  • Reduce unwanted noise, such as a background hiss
  • Review changes.  
  • Save modified recording.
Procedure:

  2. Short Workshop: Work Individually.
    • Ask for Help when you need it.

  • Open Real Producer
  • Use Recording Wizard
    • record from file
    • title = Introduction 
    • author = Your Name (e.g., John Smith) 
    • target audience = 56K 
    • audio format = Voice Only 
  • Click on Start, under Recording Controls to encode file.

  Exercise #4. Create RealMedia Metafile and Web Page.


SKILLS / TASKS
  • Under Web Publishing heading, select Create Web Page wizard
    • locate encoded RealAudio file (intro.rm), next
    • select Pop-up Player, next
    • caption:  Welcome, next
    • filename, next
    • click on Finish button.

  Exercise #5. Publish RealMedia Files.  


SKILLS / TASKS
  • Publish RealMedia files to Polaris/Nova server.
  • Under Web Publishing heading, select Publish Web Page wizard
    • select, next-->next
    • under publishing profile, select Any Standard Web Server from the drop-down list, next
    • fill in your username and password (from STEP C), next
    • click on Finish button.

  • Everyone in Lab do this together.

  • Launch Browser (Netscape Navigator)
  • Go to homepage, e.g.,   http://polaris.umuc.edu/~username/intro.html
  • Click on link.
