Greetings and Aloha! My name is Roberta Bush though I also answer to my nickname "Robin". I have a Masters Degree in Education & Computer Education from San Francisco State University. I hark back to the early days of computing and can easily remember being the only woman at a computer show featuring the latest products by Apple, Atari (Commodore Vic-20) Texas Instruments, Tandy-Radio Shack and even Timex. I've been an elementary school teacher and computer lab manager, and a private/corporate tutor working with people ranging in age from 4 to 86. I've been teaching classes online for about ten years. You'll notice I said "online" and not "on the web". The web didn't exist back then. In 1989 I was hired by America Online as their PC Applications Forum Leader. I provided support in an 'online' environment for word processing, spreadsheet, database, finance, home and hobby programs. I created unique content including tutorials, FAQs, and online classes. I Managed a staff of approximately 25 people who assisted students via email, message boards, and live chat. Most people don't realize that almost all the "work" doing online is done by volunteers. In the mid 90s I was asked to create a Desktop and Web Publishing Support area and to develop a curriculum of online classes. As the area grew I created and taught more than 20 classes covering topics such as Beginning, intermediate and advanced HTML, JavaScript, Web Design, Styles & CSS, Web Forms, FrontPage, and web searching & researching the Internet. As you may have guessed by the greeting, I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. My island of Oahu is the most populous in the island chain. When I'm not working I enjoy giving free vacation advice on how to visit Hawaii without going broke. The URL below will take you to some lovely photos of Hawaii taken with my pathetically low-res digital camera. I also enjoy surfing the web, walking, swimming, Hawaiiana, Yoga, and my big fuzzy tabby cat Buddy. Finally, I'm legally blind. I've always thought of this as an interesting concept. If I was illegally blind could I be cited? Occasionally I use screen readers or magnifiers but most of the time I just squish my nose right up to my monitor to read without assistive technology. In the interest of "truth in advertising" I should tell you the photo to the right was taken prior to the installation of several gray hairs. Where did those come from? I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you! Web Page: http://www.pcrobin.com/umuc/ | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
