This course was developed as a cooperative venture by subject matter experts, instructional designers, editors, and Web publishing specialists. University staff involved in Web course development and production include academic projects staff of the Office of Instructional Development and curriculum specialists of Undergraduate Programs.
Michelle Didier, author of this course, holds an M.A. in English with a specialty in technical writing from Bowling Green University and has been a member of UMUC's communications studies faculty since 1988. She has also served as a consultant in the field of information technology. She has received a number of honors for her writing and editing, including one for best newsletter in a chapter of the Society for Technical Communications, a professional organization in which she has held several offices.
Edward Harris, peer reviewer of this course, received a Ph.D. in English and Psychology from Vanderbilt University. He began teaching at UMUC in 1981. He is also a freelance consultant in technical writing, principally with the federal government. Dr. Harris's awards include being named Outstanding Teacher at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The template design for this course is based on an original design developed in the Office of Instructional Development by Barbara Frank, instructional designer, adapted and implemented by Sherri Clark, supervisor of desktop and Web publishing. Graphical design for the template was provided by Andrew Joyce, multimedia graphics artist, Office of Instructional Development.
Revisions were made to this course by Nancy Hoagland, Instructor of COMM393X 6980 for Summer 2002. Chapter references and page numbers were updated to correspond to Markel, Technical Communication, 6th edition. An updated 6th edition should be available soon. The course will then be revised to reflect any changes in the updated 6th edition.
