Assignment: Prepare a formal essay that defines the audience for your final analytical report in this class by writing a profile of the readers. (For a description of an analytical report, see Unit 5, "Writing Reports," in the course guide or Chapter 19, "Writing Formal Reports," in the Markel text.) Your discussion should describe your primary and secondary audience, including the audience's needs, attitudes, expectations, and use of the document. To assist you in preparing your profile, refer to these items:

Format: Be sure to clearly identify your topic in the introduction to the essay and include information in the essay regarding the needs, attitudes, expectations, and anticipated use of the report for each of the intended audiences.
Assignment length: minimum single-spaced 1 page, double-spaced between paragraphs
