Finding Books
When
you are looking for a book, what is the first things that
pops into your mind? The library, of course. For UMUC students
and faculty the fantastic resources of our library
comes immediately to mind.
Though UMUC has a fabulous set of full-text journals, newspapers, Encyclopedias
et. al. on line there are no books? So if you are searching for an e-text book, try
the
Gutenberg Project. Want a little culture? The
University of Virginia Electronic Text Library
is an academic treasure trove of medieval and modern literature.
For yet another link to some 5000 electronic texts try
Books On-Line.
Say you want to buy a book. Easy enough, try
Amazon Books.
For help in finding that hard-to-find book
meet, AddAll &
MX BookFinder
two book meta search engines, each with its own strong points.
AddAll compares prices at 18 online bookstores and reports its
findings with the cost of shipping included. MX BookFinder searches only six
sites, handpicked for server speed and specialties like out-of-print and rare books.
As you can see the Net is just brimming with Book related information.
I wonder why?
An exercise for students: Libraries maintain
interesting sites (such as the University of Virginia, above). Find one
and tell us about it. You distance folks please send a brief essay (200 words)
to our class mailing list.
