PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY 

Dr. Claudine SchWeber is currently the Director of Distance Learning & Instructional Technology at the Graduate School of Management & Technology of the University of Maryland University College, and an adjunct Professor of Management. Her teaching areas include ethics, organizational communication, leadership, human resources, and cross-cultural management.  She is a specialist in the field of conflict management and has done training, teaching and writing in this field for over a decade. She has been on the board of directors of two major conflict resolution associations, DC Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution (SPIDR) and National Conference on Peacemaking and Conflict Resolution (NCPCR).  In recent years she has written about the use of technology in conflict management, especially as it impacts those at great distances or those with disabilities. She is a certified mediator of disputes under the American with Disabilities Act. 

Prior to joining GSMT, Dr. SchWeber was the training director for the Council of Better Business Bureaus in the Mediation-Arbitration Division.  In that capacity she and her staff trained hundreds of volunteers nationwide to arbitrate automobile disputes under contract to General Motors, Honda, Volkswagon.  She developed training materials and co-produced the first training video. She has written about staff and volunteer training and the implications of telephone/fax for communication and conflict management. 

Before joining the Better Business Bureau system, Dr. SchWeber was Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at the State University of New York/College at Buffalo, where she taught undergraduate and master's degree students in law enforcement, police, community service.   Her areas of specialty were  ethics, women and crime, corrections and history of crime. During that period she wrote her book, Criminal Justice Politics and Women:The Aftermath of Legally Mandated Change, testified before the United States House of Representatives, wrote numerous articles on drug policy, history of criminal justice practices, the incarceration of women, discrimination in jury selection, etc. She was the winner of several grants and awards, and was appointed a SUNY Scholar. 

Dr.SchWeber is the author of one book, more than 25 published articles, and over a hundred presentations in the United States, western Europe and Bulgaria, conducted in English or French. She is a native of Paris, France and a U.S. citizen. 

Dr. SchWeber is currently an Ethics Commissioner for the City of Takoma Park and a member of the board of directors of a foundation dealing with issues related to the ADA.
