In addition, an underlying theme is helping faculty to gain a better understanding of our changing student population and the implications for UMUC as an Open University as they relate to levels of student preparation, expectations, and readiness, all with the goal of applying this knowledge to creating more engaging and responsive classroom environments. Hands-on activities in small groups are emphasized throughout the Institute, with specific deliverables for each track. Faculty are encouraged to make a post-institute commitment to share what they have learned with colleagues in their discipline or to provide other service to their departments.
