Plenary Session--Understanding Outcomes Assessment

The final day of the Summer Institute focused on understanding outcomes assessment and what it meant to individual faculty. In the morning, a guest speaker addressed the group. There was a small-group activity as well as an individual activity related to assessment. The day concluded with lunch and a round-table/open discussion by the entire Institute on selected topics that tied together the themes of the Institute. Faculty had the opportunity to address questions to our round-table panel of experts.

Objectives for the plenary session

  • To reflect on the significance of outcomes assessment to an individual faculty member
  • To apply a rubric to a sample of student work for the purpose of defining student learning
  • To define the components appropriate for student learning for a core learning area
  • To survey and analyze one's own use of assessments in a course
  • To reflect on the themes and activities of the Institute
