Best Practices Workshop Track
Description and Purpose

The Best Practices workshop track is designed to familiarize participants with the research findings of the Institute for Research and Assessment in Higher Education's (IRAHE) Best Instructional Practices Study, and to suggest ways in which effective practices may be implemented.

In addition to presentations from IRAHE's Director, Dr. Husein Abdul-Hamid and SUS's Associate Dean, Dr. Cynthia Davis, this workshop will feature presentations by faculty concerning their application of specific instructional practices. Workshop participants will also be asked to fill out a survey instrument and to reflect on their own practices.

One issue highlighted in this workshop is the importance of aligning assignments with learning objectives/outcomes and participants will have the opportunity to work on this topic with a small group, using the case study supplied in this binder.

Objectives for this track:

•  To furnish participants with the findings of the Best Practices Study
•  To become aware of effective instructional practices
•  To identify various methods for implementing best practices
•  To demonstrate the mapping of assignments to learning objectives
•  To create an inventory of current teaching practices for each participant
